Stories as a Way to Create Change.
Marya Patrice Sherron, MFA, is a writer, speaker, advocate, and community leader dedicated to uplifting voices and fostering inclusivity. A former professor of Creative Writing and Black Studies, her academic work focused on literary movements and art for change.
In 2021, she founded KĪ Productions—an independent publishing and production company rooted in the belief that every story matters.
As the author of five children’s books—Time to Dance, Small Big Gifts, What If My Pieces Don’t Fit?, Ruby’s Big Swim, and A Soft Place to Land—Marya’s work has been recognized for its impact, with her books featured in the Indianapolis International Airport Sensory Rooms. She has also created numerous journals and self-help workbooks, providing families and individuals with tools for empowerment and self-expression.
In 2024, Marya expanded her mission by launching KĪ Productions’ Neurodiversity Collection, which grew into the KĪ Productions imprint Neurodiversity Press. Committed to amplifying the voices of neurodivergent individuals, families, and allies, she is eager to work with new authors. Neurodiversity Press seeks to provide resources, personal testimonies, and lived experiences that drive education, awareness, and meaningful change toward a more inclusive world.
Beyond her own writing, Marya is a book consultant and coach, premier ghostwriter, and sought-after developmental editor. She is also a tireless advocate, speaker, and workshop master facilitator. Marya leads the annual Caregiver Connection workshop series in partnership with the Autism Society of Indiana.
Recognizing the urgent need for safer play spaces, Marya developed Safe Parks Plus, an initiative advocating for fenced-in public park playgrounds to protect children who elope. Her work continues to shape policies, create supportive communities, and empower families through knowledge, connection, and advocacy.
Currently, Marya is directing and producing her first documentary. When time permits, she can be found toiling in her garden.
