PUBLISHING STANDARDS

Artificial Intelligence Guidelines

Our standards for responsible AI use, authentic human authorship and transparent publishing.

Effective September 2026

Our Commitment to Authentic Storytelling

At KĪ Productions & Publishing, we believe every story matters because it reflects the unique voice, experiences, imagination, expertise, and perspective of its author.

Artificial intelligence can be a valuable tool during the writing and publishing process. Our mission, however, is to publish work that is fundamentally human-created and human-authored. We seek to amplify authentic voices—not computer-generated content presented as original human expression.

Authors remain responsible for all materials submitted for publication and must disclose their use of artificial intelligence tools as described in this policy.

Definitions

AI-assisted content begins with work created by the author. AI is used to brainstorm, organize, edit, refine, proofread, analyze, or otherwise support the author’s original work.

AI-generated content is text, imagery, translation, narration or other expressive material created by an AI-based tool. Material may still be considered AI-generated even when it has been revised or edited by a person.

General Disclosure Standard

Authors must disclose their use of AI tools during manuscript development and production. Routine AI-assisted uses listed below generally will not require additional editorial review beyond KĪ’s standard manuscript evaluation. Disclosure allows KĪ to evaluate the work accurately, protect the author, and comply with applicable publishing and distribution requirements.

Acceptable Uses of AI

The following uses are generally permitted when the author remains actively responsible for the resulting work.

Idea Development and Brainstorming

  • Brainstorming book concepts
  • Exploring themes and topics
  • Creating lists of possible titles or subtitles
  • Identifying potential audiences
  • Generating questions that help the author develop an original idea

Research Support

  • Generating research questions
  • Organizing research notes
  • Summarizing source materials for the author’s review
  • Identifying areas requiring additional research

AI output is not an authoritative source. Authors must consult original sources and independently verify all facts, quotations, references, citations, statistics, and research findings.

Planning and Organization

  • Creating or refining outlines
  • Structuring chapters
  • Organizing content flow
  • Developing project timelines
  • Creating character worksheets or planning profiles
  • Identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or areas requiring further development

The author must make the final creative and structural decisions.

Editing and Proofreading

  • Spell-checking
  • Grammar correction
  • Readability suggestions
  • Identifying repetitive wording
  • Formatting assistance
  • Copyediting support
  • Identifying possible inconsistencies for the author or editor to review

The author must review and approve every suggested change. AI-assisted editing does not replace professional editorial review when such review is required.

Marketing Support

  • Brainstorming promotional ideas
  • Drafting preliminary social media content
  • Creating discussion questions
  • Developing interview topics
  • Assisting with marketing plans
  • Organizing promotional schedules

All public-facing marketing language must be reviewed for accuracy and approved by the author.

Limited Uses Requiring Disclosure and Editorial Review

The following uses must be specifically disclosed to KĪ and will be evaluated individually:

  • AI-generated scene drafts later substantially rewritten by the author
  • AI-generated dialogue later substantially rewritten by the author
  • AI-generated chapter summaries later expanded into original content
  • AI-generated text significantly revised and transformed by the author
  • AI-generated translations
  • AI-generated cover art, illustrations, interior artwork, photographs, narration, or other publication assets
  • Any use of AI that contributes expressive content appearing in the final publication

Disclosure does not guarantee acceptance. KĪ may request drafts, revision histories, source materials, or additional information necessary to evaluate the extent of human authorship.

Confidentiality, Privacy and Intellectual Property

Authors should not upload confidential, private, proprietary, or personally identifying material to an AI system without appropriate authorization and a clear understanding of how the system may store or use that information.

This includes unpublished manuscripts belonging to others, private interviews, client information, medical or educational records, protected personal information, and material covered by a confidentiality or nondisclosure agreement.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all submitted materials are original or properly licensed and that their use does not violate another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights.

Author Disclosure Requirements

Authors must provide an accurate description of:

  • The AI tools used
  • How each tool was used
  • The portions or stages of the project in which AI was used
  • Whether any AI-generated text, imagery, translation, narration or other material appears in the submitted work
  • The extent of the author’s revisions to any AI-generated material

KĪ may require additional disclosure when necessary to satisfy printer, distributor, retailer, registration, or other publishing-platform requirements.

Failure to Disclose

Failure to disclose significant AI involvement may result in:

  • Additional manuscript review
  • Rejection of the manuscript
  • Suspension or termination of a publishing agreement, as permitted by that agreement
  • Removal or withdrawal of a title from publication or distribution when significant undisclosed AI involvement is discovered after release

Author Certification

By submitting a manuscript or publication asset to KĪ Productions & Publishing, the author certifies that:

  1. The work is primarily the result of human authorship.
  2. All required AI use has been fully and accurately disclosed.
  3. The author has reviewed and approved all submitted content.
  4. The author accepts responsibility for the work’s accuracy, originality, legality, and integrity.
  5. The author’s unique voice, experiences, expertise, imagination, and creative decisions remain the foundation of the work.
  6. The author has the necessary rights and permissions for all submitted material.

Editorial Discretion and Policy Updates

KĪ reserves the right to evaluate AI involvement individually and to decline work that does not align with its publishing mission, editorial standards, distribution requirements, or commitment to authentic human storytelling.

Artificial intelligence technology and publishing requirements continue to evolve. KĪ may revise these guidelines as industry practices, legal guidance and distribution-platform policies change.
